The short answer is: Christian Fellowship….
The long answer relates to the original language of the New Testament, which is Koine Greek, an ancient language that was common at the time of Jesus, along with Aramaic and Hebrew. The word, “koinonia,” is the transliterated version of the Koine Greek word and appears 19 times in the Greek New Testament. It embraces the concept of community, communion, fellowship, joint participation and sharing.
Koinonia means you are welcome here…just as Jesus welcomed, forgave and loved all people, koinonia means that we will seek to do the same because our unity is in Jesus Christ.
You may not even be sure about this Jesus guy…maybe you aren't really Christian but are curious and want to know more; maybe you've been a Christian your whole life; maybe the church has failed you at some point and you walked away; maybe life has been too hard and you don't feel worthy of God's love; maybe you just couldn't reconcile what you learned in Sunday School with what life is like as an adult. Come and see…
Koinonia is also closely linked with the sacrament of Holy Communion as it relates to communion with one another and with Christ. Holy Communion brings full expression to koinonia as unity in the Body of Christ.
